CAI Legal Forum: California Exceeds Expectations

baycen events legal forum Oct 06, 2020

In September 2020, the Community Associations Institute’s (CAI) eight California Chapters came together to host the first-ever statewide virtual event. Anyone who lives in, works for or provides services to a California community association left the event more informed, more engaged and better able to contribute to a successful community.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many of us into an even more digital world, allowing larger groups of people to gather. These unforeseen circumstances provided the gateway for the eight CAI California Chapters to host a virtual Legal Forum, allowing more members to participate than ever before.

The goal was to reach 400 attendees, the amount of people that joined the CAI Legal Forum in person last year (either in northern California or southern). The event exceeded all expectations! More than 535 attendees joined us virtually and surpassed the goal for homeowner leader and managers. Nearly 400 of attendees were managers and homeowner leaders working within the industry.

Event attendees truly demonstrated the commitment and enthusiasm of our members who came together to support our industry and improve community association living for Californians. We are so proud of our CAI members for joining us on this new journey and participating in a virtual event in order to continue learning and networking, it’s reflective of the quality of education and dedication our members have to growing within their careers.

Best of all, were the amazing homeowner leader attendees.

CAI homeowner leaders serve on their homeowner association board as a volunteer, managing (at times) large budgets, contractors, etc. Many homeowner leaders attend CAI events with their own funds and are not paid for by the homeowners’ association. They do so because they care about their neighborhood and are invested in protecting their investment.

We are proud to announce that one of our homeowner leader attendees won one of two $250 cash prizes! Kay Diak of Parkmont Villas in Fremont, CA is using her prize money to pay for her CAI Chapter membership. Kay reported that the Legal Forum event was so valuable, she chose to use her winnings to continue to learn and grow as a homeowner leader.

“What I loved most: was learning about CAI and the network of individuals available to homeowners and board members. I want to thank Adrian Adams and his staff for their newsletter that lead me to this legal forum. It was great being able to talk directly with the experts. I did not know that anything like this was available,” explains Kay Diak.

Welcome to the CAI community Kay! We know you and all our members will continue to see the value of your membership. While we hope to all meet again in-person soon, we look forward to providing virtual events to build bridges between our members.

If you have any questions or additional feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
